Group of Thermal Processes
Description
The research group focuses on analyzing thermochemical waste processing processes, including municipal and biomass waste. The group conducts research in the following areas:
- material pre-treatment, which involves activities such as drying, torrefaction, and hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). This includes the analysis of the physicochemical properties of solid and liquid HTC products,
- pyrolysis and co-pyrolysis processes to produce biochars and bio-oil, and to explore the material and energy use of biochars,
- catalytic gasification processes to obtain high-quality gas.
- operational problems related to the combustion of solid fuels and waste, such as ash agglomeration and corrosion,
- low-emission fuel combustion techniques: the group researches the formation of solid, liquid, and gaseous pollutants, using experimental and numerical modelling,
- utilization of selected energy waste as components in polymer materials technology.
